We believe the senior adult years can be some of the most vibrant, effective, and fulfilling periods of life. God brings about tremendous wisdom through decades of life experience. The result is a rich body of wisdom among our senior saints who can benefit the rest of the church. In addition, many senior adults find themselves with greater availability to meet needs, leading to a season of unprecedented fruitfulness. That’s why we call this ministry “Prime Time!”

Prime Time exists within a guiding framework so that our programming stays true to God’s design:
View Senior Adults the way God does
In the Bible God provides the right way to view the older years.
“Gray hair is a glorious crown; it is found in the ways of righteousness.” (Prov 16:31)
“Wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life.” (Job 12:12)
“The glory of young men is their strength, and the splendor of old men is gray hair.” (Prov 20:29)
“You are to rise in the presence of the elderly and honor the old. Fear your God; I am the LORD.” (Lev 19:32)
“Even while I am old and gray, God, do not abandon me, while I proclaim your power to another generation, your strength to all who are to come.” (Ps 71:18)
We see God’s provision and care continues not only to but also through seniors. When senior adults view themselves in this light, and when the rest of the church respects them in this way, God brings about tremendous blessing to them all.
Develop ministry both to and from senior adults
A tremendous reservoir of ministry potential lies in our senior adults, who can be a positive force for good. While many take a view that this is simply a stage of relaxation and enjoyment, the only way to truly enjoy this time is by continuing effective service. We find opportunities for this to happen at Redland.
We also want to identify real needs and meet those. Fall prevention, emergency preparedness, and financial planning are among just some of those needs. Greater still is the need for guidance from God’s Word in what can often be a difficult period of life, when loved ones are lost and medical needs increase. Godly wisdom and the council of wise friends is a crucial part of this.
Build both community among seniors and inter-generational interaction
Activities, games, trips, and other fellowship opportunities help build community among seniors, as do the intentional ways this group meets needs among themselves. Visiting the sick or the home bound helps form strong bonds that are necessary.
Our senior adult ministry also strives to connect senior members with younger generations so that mutual benefit comes through shared wisdom and interaction. This is the body of Christ at work!
