I have a goal setting resource for you, and it contains practical advice for parents to help teens make good goals with ways to measure them.
But first, what does God’s Word say about setting goals?
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” Luke 14:28
Commit your goals to God.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3
Keep eternity in perspective.
“Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” John 6:27
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:14
I suggest asking this question about each goal we set: How will accomplishing this goal help me bring glory to God and have lasting impact for him?
Can the goal of a better math grade bring glory to God? Yes. A good student is doing “all to the glory of God,” and is preparing for future success.
With this eternal perspective in mind, download the Goals Resource so you can help your teen set effective goals for the New Year.
